Hi. I don’t know why I’m telling this story, maybe just to tell how bad I feel now. My name is Arthur and I am 16 years old. My story is about a girl I love who doesn’t remember anything that happened between us. And I can’t do anything about it. Listen to my story
About a year ago, a new student from Hong Kong arrived at our school. Student exchanges were very common for us, so no one paid attention to a new face.
With the exception of our advisor, of course. He asked me to watch for a while to help him adapt to his new environment. You see, I have good qualifications and a good reputation with the advisor. And, of course, I didn’t want to lose that, so I accepted even before I met the new student. Our guest in Hong Kong was Lin. Easy to remember, isn’t it?
As I had never learned Chinese, I was a little nervous, but it turns out that nothing worries, because Lin’s English is perfect! And it wasn’t the only thing that was perfect at home! Lin was very beautiful. I mean, like … VERY beautiful! I have never loved anyone as much as she. As soon as I met Lin, I couldn’t help thinking about her.
After school, I guided her to the city, as during her personal visit, while telling her about our life in the United Kingdom. Lin had never traveled outside of Hong Kong before, and many things here took her by surprise and aroused her curiosity. For example, he wondered why we only had skyscrapers in the city. And she felt strange to be with a British family in a small private house. Lin had grown up on the thirty-second floor of a building in Hong Kong!
When I returned home, I couldn’t help thinking that I would see Lin the next day. I played our conversations in my head, remembered his song accent and loved his sense of humor and meaning. Yes. I assure you, I was in love.
“I soon asked Lin if she wanted to be a couple, and she didn’t say no, Lin was the first girl I kissed in my life, but my happiness didn’t last long. A terrible accident destroyed us.
Once, Lin and I went to the outskirts of the city, with four of our classmates, in a car that belonged to one of them. The weather was beautiful and the weekend was supposed to be very pleasant. We drove to a small rocky lake, but instead of swimming, we decided to play volleyball. We didn’t play very well, but we weren’t too bad, so it was fun. Then … one of the boys did a difficult but not very precise service and the ball … hit Lin in the head.
Of course, he did not intend to do so! But what is the difference? The ball hit Lin so hard that he fell and passed out. I ran to her, trying to wake her up, but she was cold. We were all very scared! Thank God, one of the girls had more heads than us and called 999. The ambulance arrived and took Lin to the hospital.
Lin’s mother came from Hong Kong on the first available flight. It took more than 13 hours … while Lin was unconscious. I spent all the time in the hospital, terribly worried about the girl I loved. The worst part was that the doctors didn’t let me see her! Yes, I was her boyfriend, but I couldn’t go to her without her parents’ permission. And when my girlfriend’s mother finally arrived, something strange happened: it turned out that she didn’t know anything about me. So she didn’t allow me to visit Lin, saying I shouldn’t be bothered. Well, I thought we weren’t out enough for Lin to tell us about his parents. But it was always frustrating.
I only saw my girlfriend the day she left the hospital. That day, I bought some flowers and a large box of chocolates (I even asked doctors if Lin was allowed to eat chocolates) and waited for her at the hospital doors. When I saw Lin walking with his mother, I smiled happily and headed towards her. But for some reason, Lin just happened to me. This is how my personal hell began.
She was afraid that Lin’s mother would take her to Hong Kong with her after all that, but she made sure Lin was fine and left alone. But you know … I really wish Lin had come home with his mother. The fact was that after my girlfriend was hit in the head, she forgot she was my girlfriend.
She knew who I was, knew how to start.
